About The Position

Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (BBHH) is an acute psychiatric and behavioral 90-bed facility offering inpatient and outpatient services for children, adolescents, and adults. We provide treatment for mental/behavioral health, chemical dependency, and co-occurring disorders through medically supervised detoxification. This RN position is within the Inpatient units, requiring a high level of attention to detail and situational awareness for successful patient outcomes. The role demands critical thinking, teamwork, and strong communication skills in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership in organizing unit tasks, possess high-quality clinical and interpersonal skills, and have a basic understanding of treatment procedures, crisis intervention, abnormal psychology, and psychotropic medications. Strong organizational, time management, and crisis intervention skills are essential, along with excellent written and oral communication in English, and the ability to facilitate groups.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Current California RN License
  • Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain prior to start date (cost covered by employer).
  • Completion of 'Handle-With-Care' Physical Restraint Technique Training during orientation.
  • Previous experience in a mental healthcare hospital environment focusing on human behavior, psychiatry, psychology, or other mental healthcare situations is preferred for shortlist consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent care to patients in the Inpatient units.
  • Demonstrate sound leadership skills in organizing activities and schedules for medical and/or non-medical tasks on the unit.
  • Showcase high-quality clinical and interpersonal skills as an exemplary role model.
  • Apply basic knowledge of treatment procedures, interventions common to acute psychotic and non-violent crisis intervention, and abnormal psychology to patient care.
  • Utilize thorough familiarity with psychiatric care and psychotropic medications.
  • Employ problem-solving skills.
  • Manage exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Perform crisis intervention.
  • Communicate effectively in written and oral English.
  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate process-oriented and didactic groups.
