This is a part-time Registered Nurse position at Sussex State Prison, offering a flexible staffing arrangement for nurses seeking additional hours, with an average of no more than 29 hours per week. The role involves providing nursing care within adult correctional institutions using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Services include 24-hour nursing care, telemedicine, chronic care clinics, sick call screenings/triage, medication administration, patient education, and basic life support/emergency care. All pertinent information must be documented in the health record while maintaining confidentiality and interfacing with other departments as needed. Registered Nurses are expected to delegate tasks, work assigned hours, days, and locations, and provide coverage to meet institutional needs. The position emphasizes evidence-based nursing care and continued competence through education and certification, with a focus on correctional nursing. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet clinical and administrative needs. This is a wage position limited to 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, with the employment period resetting annually. Wage employees are limited to an average of 29 hours per week. This wage position offers no state benefits. Currently, this position is approved for a temporary enhanced hourly rate due to critical staffing needs.
