MacNeal Hospital’s Behavioral Health Services Department is an adult psychiatric department with five units and 68 beds. The department provides comprehensive care for a wide spectrum of psychiatric diagnoses and alcohol detoxification. The role serves patients whose mental health needs have been disproportionately affected by gaps in the healthcare system, with safety and zero-harm principles at the forefront of care. The department is working to change mental health care on Chicago’s Southwest Side and offers professional development support and guidance from its leadership team. Nurses in the Chronic Diagnosis/Intensive Treatment Unit work collaboratively to create structure for patients with significant needs, while developing de-escalation skills and understanding factors that precipitate mental illness and the effects of institutionalization. Geriatric Unit nurses combine clinical skills and behavioral interventions while caring for patients with behavioral health conditions alongside aging or other comorbidities. Nurses on the general inpatient psychiatric units use evidence-based practice and trauma-informed care to support patients experiencing major depressive disorder, anxiety, alcohol or substance detoxification, and postpartum depression. This is a full-time night-shift position at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois, scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The schedule includes self-scheduling, every third weekend, and a rotating holiday schedule. Pay ranges are $36.05–$59.92 per hour for BSN nurses and $32.90–$57.06 per hour for ADN nurses. Actual compensation depends on factors including experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons with colleagues in similar roles.
