Requirements

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current Heart & Stroke approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
  • ACLS Certification required at time of hire and ongoing
  • Two years of recent Surgical Day Care nursing experience required.
  • Two years of recent PACU nursing experience required.
  • Critical Care Nursing certificate required upon time of hire. Consideration will be given to critical care experience if no other applicants have the Critical Care certificate completed.
  • Experience with administering IV drugs below the drip chambers, central lines, Epidural/ PCA pump, ECG machines, invasive pressure monitoring required.
  • Experience with phlebotomy, paracentesis, and other ambulatory care procedures.
  • Ability to interpret advanced arrhythmias
  • Strong patient assessment skills essential
  • Must possess excellent decision making & critical thinking skills
  • Flexible, good team player with positive attitude.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Caring attitude with patients, families and co-workers.
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required.

Nice To Haves

  • Coronary Care 1 and 2 preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Apply all aspects of the nursing process to the care of the surgical day patient in a professional and multi-disciplinary team.
  • Providing care to patients in the PACU, Surgical Day Care and Pre-Admission Clinic.
