About The Position

The Surgical Oncology RN provides high-quality, compassionate patient care at Union Health on 3EC, a unit caring for patients after general surgery and cancer patients undergoing treatment or experiencing diagnosis-related concerns. The role collaborates with physicians or managers to identify patient needs, assesses patients, contributes to care plans, supports patient education and independence, respects patient rights, follows policies and protocols, and assists physicians with special procedures. The unit offers an eight-week new graduate RN orientation, preceptor support, and new graduate residency, nurse apprentice, and nurse extern programs. It is Magnet designated and emphasizes collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality outcomes, and professional growth. The unit is led by Nursing Care Manager Jennifer Meyer.

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited ASN or BSN program.
Hold an Indiana RN license.
Hold BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

Previous RN experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the physician or manager to determine patients’ needs.
Complete routine physical assessments using common assessment skills in a systematic manner.
Contribute to plans of care for predefined patient problems.
Respect patients’ rights, including the rights to information, privacy, confidentiality, and refusal of care.
Assist with patient education to promote self-care and independence.
Follow company policies and procedures and department protocols.
Assist the physician with special procedures.
Provide care for post-operative surgical patients through discharge and care for cancer patients undergoing treatment or experiencing diagnosis-related concerns.
