About The Position

The Outpatient Infusion RN is responsible for providing both direct and indirect nursing care to patients within the outpatient infusion unit. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of departmental and hospital policies related to the delivery of nursing care. Strong interpretive skills are essential to assess patient conditions, monitor responses to treatment, and support clinical decision-making. Frequent interaction, collaboration, and consultation with patients, providers, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team are inherent to this position to ensure safe, effective, and coordinated patient care.

Requirements

  • RN - Registered Nurse
  • BLS - Basic Life Saving certification
  • ACLS or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • RN, Graduate of an accredited nursing school

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process in the pre‑ and post‑procedure setting, including assessment, problem identification, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Applies critical thinking and prioritization skills to meet patient needs and ensure safe, effective care delivery.
  • Safely identifies, labels, administers, and documents all medications and ordered solutions in accordance with BMC patient care policies.
  • Demonstrates competency with all aspects of the order entry process to ensure accurate and timely treatment implementation.
  • Performs technical nursing skills including, but not limited to, insertion, care, and maintenance of intravenous (IV) lines.
  • Demonstrates complete working knowledge and safe operation of all equipment used within the outpatient infusion department.
  • Completes thorough, accurate, and timely documentation of all pre‑ and post‑procedure nursing care.
  • Reviews patient charts for all pertinent information, including physician orders, diagnostic results, and abnormal laboratory values.
  • Assesses patient safety risks and identifies patients requiring specific safety devices or interventions.
  • Ensures adherence to safety standards and policies to promote optimal patient outcomes.
  • Identifies patient educational needs and provides appropriate instruction related to procedures, treatments, and care plans.
  • Documents patient education on the teaching assessment form and modifies education plans as needed based on patient understanding.
  • Participates in patient scheduling to support efficient clinic flow and coordinated care delivery.
  • Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care.
