About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization. This role is within the 8 Heart & Lung unit, a 16-bed cardiac surgical intermediate care unit specializing in pre & post-operative cardiac surgery patients at Jewish Hospital, a part of UofL Health. Jewish Hospital is an internationally renowned, high-tech tertiary referral center known for advancements in hand and microsurgery, heart and lung care, orthopedics and sports medicine, neuroscience, organ transplantation, and outpatient care. It has a history of pioneering procedures such as the world's first successful hand transplant and AbioCor® implantable replacement heart. The hospital is recognized for specialized heart care, including ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation and transcatheter aortic valve replacement. The UofL Health – Trager Transplant Center is one of a select few hospitals nationwide performing heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, and hand transplantation, and also houses a Pancreas Disease Center, a GI Motility Clinic, and Advanced Heart Failure and VAD programs.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (required)
  • All new-hire Associate Degree Registered Nurses (new graduate and experienced) are required to start an approved BSN program within one (1) year of hire and complete an approved BSN program within three (3) years of hire (required)
  • All new RN graduates will participate in the Nurse Residency program and must successfully complete all activities (required)
  • Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required)
  • Basic Life Saving (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (preferred)
  • Two years of hospital patient care experience (preferred)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (may be required for specific clinical areas)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (may be required for specific clinical areas)
  • Additional, specialized certifications may be required or preferred based on unit
