About The Position

The Ultimate Float Team provides skilled, patient-centered care across 20+ units at the Sarasota Campus, with opportunities to float to specialty units such as ICU, SMH Venice Campus, Pediatrics, and Cornell. Patients requiring complex nursing assessment and care include those needing Orthopedic & Trauma Care, Neurological Care, and Cardiac Care with titration of cardiac drips. Cardiac Division Inpatient Units include: 10ET-Respiratory Progressive Care 9ET-Trauma Progressive Care 8ET- Cardiac Progressive 2 7ET- Cardiac Progressive 4 (Designated Heart Failure Unit) 5ET-Cardiac Neuro Med-Surg Unit (Neuro Progressive Care Unit) 8CYT Cardiac Acute Care Unit & Remote Telemetry 7CYT Cardiac Progressive 3 Cardiac Thoracic Step Down 5NW Medical Short Stay (Neuro/Cardiac/GI, Respiratory/Uro/Renal)

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience.
  • Successful completion of Basic Arrhythmia test within 90 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within six (6) months of hire.
  • National Institutes of Health (NIH) Stroke Scale certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support/CPR.
  • FL RN: FL Registered Nurse License.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or a diploma program.
  • For new hires after 2012, Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing (BSN) is required within specified timeframe as outlined in the New Hire BSN Agreement policy (126.045).
  • Basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled, patient-centered care across 20+ units.
  • Float to specialty units such as ICU, SMH Venice Campus, Pediatrics, and Cornell.
  • Perform complex nursing assessments and care for patients requiring Orthopedic & Trauma Care, Neurological Care, and Cardiac Care.
  • Titrate cardiac drips (Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, etc.).
  • Manage patients with conditions including fractures, orthopedic abnormalities, acute traumatic brain injuries, ventriculostomy, respiratory issues, trauma, cardiac and medical overflows, telemetry, CHF, chest pain, arrhythmias, syncope, post-cardiac procedures, stroke, post-craniectomy, spinal surgeries, lumbar drains, cardiac comorbidities, stress tests, cardioversions, ablations, pacemakers, carotid stenting, A-lines, temporary pacemakers, Coronary Stents, Mitral Clip Insertion, Watchman Procedure, Cross Septum Ablations, CAPD/CCPD, Temporary Transvenous Pacemakers, Permanent Pacemakers, Venous/Arterial Sheaths, Pre-open Heart Patients, chest tubes, central lines, insulin drips, TAVR, vascular surgeries, epicardial wires, and high volume pain management (PCA pump, epidurals, tube feedings).
  • Provide care for post-operative open heart patients.
  • Manage patients in a fast-paced short stay environment with a wide variety of diagnoses.
  • Participate in the Cardiac Transport Nurses, Code Blue Nurses, and the Remote Telemetry room activities.
