About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) on a Part-time, Days schedule for the Med/Surg Ortho unit at Atrium Health Mercy. The unit is a 48-bed Orthopedic Surgery Medical Surgical Telemetry Unit, primarily handling procedures like total joint replacements (knee, hip, shoulder), spine surgeries, and general medical patients. Atrium Health Mercy is a Magnet designated facility known for patient-centered care. Advocate Health, the parent organization, is a large integrated health system focused on clinical innovation, patient outcomes, and consumer experience.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing.
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state in which you work and reside or; if declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as your primary state of residency, meet the licensure requirements in your home state; or for Non-National License Compact states, current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner required in the state where the RN works.
  • Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Must speak English in good, understandable terms.
  • Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch.
  • Finger dexterity.
  • Critical thinking and ability to concentrate.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
  • Physical Abilities Testing required.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of inpatient nursing experience preferred.
  • At least 6 months required experience to come in outside of the New Grad residency program.
  • BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care through the nursing process.
  • Deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Utilize evidence-based practice, clinical decision-making, compassion, and communication skills.
  • Lead efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience.
  • Collect data pertinent to the healthcare consumer's health or the situation.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Identify expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the healthcare consumer or the situation.
  • Develop a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes.
  • Implement the identified plan, coordinate care delivery, and employ strategies to promote health and a safe environment.
  • Delegate elements of care to appropriate healthcare workers.
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes.
  • Practice in a manner that is congruent with cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Communicate effectively in all areas of practice.
  • Collaborate with healthcare consumer and other key stakeholders in the conduct of nursing practice.
  • Lead within the professional practice setting and the profession.
  • Integrate evidence and research findings into practice.
  • Contribute to quality nursing practice.
  • Evaluate one's own and others nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations.
  • Utilize appropriate resources to plan, provide, and sustain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and fiscally responsible.
  • Practice in an environmentally safe and healthy manner.
  • Practice ethically.
  • Promote shared governance, or facility decision making activities, developing and nurturing research to positively affect clinical outcomes and promotion.
