About The Position
Deaconess Illinois Medical Center is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse for its Neuro Unit. The nurse provides specialized, patient-centered care to people with neurological disorders or injuries and those recovering from neurological surgery. Patients may have conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. The role supports patients through recovery, helping them regain independence and improve their quality of life. Neuro nurses develop advanced assessment, critical-thinking, and neuroscience nursing skills while caring for patients and families through challenging stages of recovery. The position involves collaboration with an interdisciplinary care team and a commitment to clinical excellence, safety, and compassionate care.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or Red Cross BLS certification upon hire.

- One year of previous clinical nursing experience.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for patients with neurological conditions.
- Monitor patients’ neurological status, recognize changes, and respond appropriately.
- Care for patients with neurological disorders and injuries, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis.
- Administer medications, treatments, and therapies according to established clinical protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and other interdisciplinary team members to support optimal patient outcomes.
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, recovery expectations, and ongoing care needs.
- Provide compassionate support to patients and loved ones navigating complex healthcare situations.
- Maintain accurate documentation and promote quality, safety, and evidence-based nursing practices.
