About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) works in the 2 CUB Cardiac Universal Bed Unit at The Heart Hospital. The unit cares for cardiac and vascular patients, including patients with CHF and those recovering immediately after cardiac bypass and valve procedures. The Cardiac Universal Bed model provides care across telemetry, PCU, ICU, and CVICU acuity levels. The 20-bed unit has patient ratios of 1:4 for telemetry, 1:3 for PCU, 1:2 for ICU, and 1:1 for immediate post-operative or unstable CVICU patients connected to specialized devices. The fast-paced environment supports learning, mentoring, skills development, and care of high-acuity patients. Using a professional practice model, the RN oversees patient care by assessing patients, identifying health concerns, developing and evaluating care plans, and assessing responses to care. The RN provides education, collaborates with colleagues and the community, delegates tasks according to patient condition and team competencies, and follows the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
