Registered Nurse (RN) Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit
About The Position
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, a level one trauma center, is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. This is a 16-bed unit that handles immediate surgical recovery of Kidney and Pancreas Transplant, General Surgical Patients requiring ICU, management of patients requiring mechanical ventilation, management of patients requiring CRRT and hemo-dialysis, and vascular surgeries. The patient population served includes adult medical and surgical patients requiring intensive nursing care, with an average length of stay of 2-3 days, though complex patients may stay longer than 30 days.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
- Registered nursing License (Required)
- Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
- BLS required within 90 days of hire
- Minimum of 1 year emergency, intermediate care, intensive care or med/surg nursing
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
- Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.
Responsibilities

- Adhere to standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
- Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation.
- Manage patients requiring CRRT and hemo-dialysis.
- Provide care for patients undergoing complex vascular surgeries.
- Provide immediate surgical recovery care for Kidney and Pancreas Transplant patients.
- Provide intensive nursing care for adult medical and surgical patients.
