About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care utilizing the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and professional nursing standards. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients, including those with stroke, traumatic brain injury, intracranial hemorrhage, seizures, spinal cord injuries, and other complex neurological conditions. The RN maintains accountability for assigned patients while coordinating care with physicians, advanced practice providers, technical nurses, patient care associates, and other members of the healthcare team. The RN functions as a patient advocate, promotes patient safety, and may serve as charge nurse when assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Florida Registered Nurse license or eligibility for Florida licensure.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross prior to the first day of employment.
  • Less than one year of related nursing experience.
  • Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage rapidly changing patient conditions in a high-acuity environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to teamwork and patient-centered care.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and healthcare technology.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining patient safety and quality outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association within six (6) months of hire or transfer into the Neuro ICU.
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
  • Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN)
  • Neuroscience Certified Nurse (CNRN)
  • Other relevant specialty certification
  • One (1) year of acute care, critical care, Neuro ICU, ICU, emergency, stroke, or progressive care nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing neurological monitoring.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with physician orders and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Utilize advanced technology and monitoring systems to support patient care delivery.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, disease processes, and discharge needs.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to peers and support staff as appropriate.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice projects, and professional development activities.
  • Function as charge nurse when assigned.
