Catholic Charities of Baltimore is seeking a Part Time Registered Nurse to provide nursing care as needed within the Family Services Division. Uses the nursing process to assess, plan, intervene and evaluate children in care with emotional and behavioral difficulties. Provides first aid for staff, volunteers, and visitors. The work schedule is XXXXXX. (ADD PROGRAM SUMMARY) JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all duties utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Administers medications and treatments in accordance with evidence based best practices and team plans. Monitors the outcome of interventions. Assesses health and provides clinical nursing care. Accurately measures height, weight, and vital signs. Collects lab specimens as ordered. Assists the pediatrician in physical assessments and medical reviews. Makes rounds through assigned areas to observe children. Triages and assesses level of need for clients, staff, volunteers and visitors in routine, urgent and emergency situations as directed by policy and procedure. Provides First aid and perform CPR if needed. Provides required TB screening or testing and designated immunizations (such as Flu shots) for clients and employees. Accurately transcribes written physician/NP orders. Accurately reviews and documents phone orders. Assists in ordering, storage and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Ensure the security of Health Services supplies and equipment. Accurately and thoroughly documents all work done, all contacts, procedures, and lab reports in medical records. Audits charts as needed. Obtains health history upon admission. On an ongoing basis, updates, validates and clarifies health information. Development, implements and evaluates treatment care plans in accord with program policy and client needs. Communicates health related information to families/guardians. Educates clients, staff, and families/guardians about health care. Works closely with a multidisciplinary team. Uses hand-off communication. Calls or writes to staff and guardians giving information regarding children's complaints and strengths as it relates to their health care. Emphasizes wellness and strengths among clients in care. Reports on all significant activities and information on relieving staff members. Inform supervisors and on call administrator for nursing of the status of assigned task, significant information about clients, problems related to the operation of the department and all events requiring the submission of an occurrence report. Anticipates and recognizes emotional disturbance in children and families/guardians and acts accordingly to avoid escalation of crisis. Manages crisis appropriately by contracting resource staff and or performing crisis intervention techniques according to policy and procedures. Serves as a resource to staff and children in crisis, which at times may require the use of restraints as outlined and taught in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI). In times of crisis monitors and provides support to children and staff and serves as unit coverage if needed for safety. Assists in orienting and training new staff as assigned. Performs health duties as assigned in any CC location, any day of the week, any shift as needed to successfully implement care expected from the Health Services Division Department. Performs other duties as assigned. PROGRAM/POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES: Employees working in the following program(s) or position(s) have responsibilities that are in addition to the above core duties and responsibilities. These include, but are not limited to: St. Vincent’s Villa: Performs duties in a residential setting with 24-hour nursing coverage needs. Case manages if assigned a treatment team in residence. Villa Maria School: Performs duties in a Special Education school setting. Case manages somatic care and medication if assigned at school. RNII (internal candidates only) - 819000: Three (3) years’ experience at SVV or VMS with a demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, handle competing priorities simultaneously, maintain attention to detail, and exhibit emerging leadership capabilities. Manages clinic operations in collaboration with the pediatrician, ensuring efficient patient flow, adherence to clinical protocols, and high-quality patient care. Performs the role of Team RN, coordinating patient care, communicating with interdisciplinary team members, and ensuring continuity of care. Performs the role of Admission RN, completing patient assessments, admissions documentation, and patient education in compliance with regulatory standards. Manages laboratory orders, including order entry, tracking results, follow-up communication, and ensuring timely provider notification. Manages pediatric vaccines under the Vaccines for Children (VFC program), including inventory control, storage compliance, administration documentation, and reporting per state and federal guidelines. Manages therapeutic leave of absence medications, ensuring accurate reconciliation, safe storage, administration coordination, and regulatory compliance. Manages prior authorizations, collaborating with providers, pharmacies, and insurance companies to ensure timely medication and treatment approvals. Precepts and mentors new RNs, providing training, competency validation, performance feedback, and support to ensure successful onboarding.
