Registered Nurse RN - Emergency Department
About The Position
The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department delivers safe patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, and provides direct care within the scope of practice. The nurse directs and guides patient and family teaching and the activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining professional nursing care standards. The nurse is accountable for the care provided to patients in the Emergency Department, communicates changes in patients’ clinical conditions and diagnostic results to physicians, and responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or treatment response. The role also requires knowledge of EMTALA regulations and abuse reporting procedures, as well as maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
Requirements
- Current and valid state RN license.
- Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintained current.
- Current ALS certificate within 30 days of hire and maintained current.
- Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC within 60 days of hire and maintained current.
- ECRN or MICN certificate within 12 months of hire and maintained current, where required by the facility.
- Completion of required annual education at EDAP-certified facilities.
- For non-OB facilities, NRP certificate within 90 days of hire and maintained current.
- For trauma-designated facilities, TNCC within 12 months of hire and maintained current.
Nice To Haves
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- TNCC at non-trauma facilities.
Responsibilities
- Deliver safe patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Provide direct patient care within the scope of practice.
- Direct and guide patient and family teaching and the activities of other nursing personnel.
- Maintain standards of professional nursing care.
- Remain accountable for the care provided to Emergency Department patients.
- Communicate changes in patients’ clinical conditions, diagnostic study results, and symptoms to physicians.
- Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment.
- Follow applicable EMTALA regulations and report child or adult abuse to appropriate agencies and the Hospital Social Worker.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
