Registered Nurse - Recovery Room
About The Position
The PACU Registered Nurse delivers patient care to patients within the scope of PACU services through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse coordinates post-operative care with surgeons and anesthesiologists, guides other personnel, and maintains PACU standards of care. The position communicates patient clinical changes to physicians, including hemodynamic monitoring, diagnostic study results, abnormal findings, and symptoms. It also involves collaboration across departments to support quality care, patient flow, and unit organization, adherence to regulations and hospital policies, participation in performance improvement activities and unit meetings and in-services, and serving as a resource to other personnel. The role is accountable directly to the OR Charge Nurse and Director of Surgical Services, and indirectly to the House Supervisor.
Requirements
- Current and valid state RN License.
- Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
- ACLS (AHA) certificate within 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
- Previous Critical Care or PACU experience, or a minimum of one year of on-the-job training.
Nice To Haves
- Critical Care RN (CCRN) certification preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Responsibilities
- Deliver patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for patients within the PACU scope of services.
- Coordinate post-operative patient care with the surgeon and anesthesiologist.
- Direct and guide other personnel while maintaining PACU standards of care.
- Communicate changes in patients’ clinical conditions to physicians, including hemodynamic monitoring, diagnostic study results, abnormal results, and symptoms.
- Collaborate with other departments and co-workers to provide quality care, efficient patient flow, and unit maintenance and organization.
- Adhere to regulations, standards, and hospital or unit policies and procedures.
- Participate in Performance Improvement activities, unit meetings, and in-services.
- Act as a resource for other personnel as appropriate.
