The registered nurse works under general supervision and in accordance with organizational, unit, and Michigan Public Health Code policies, procedures, and guidelines. The nurse manages patient care throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge. This includes using the nursing process; coordinating care delivered by other professionals; delegating appropriate tasks to patient care assistants and universal service assistants; providing physical care within the scope of nursing practice based on patient acuity and complexity; and documenting and communicating patient responses, resource use, and anticipated needs during each tour of duty. Direct-care employees must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. The role follows professional standards for assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized patient care. The nurse collaborates with patients, families, and healthcare professionals; provides education and discharge planning; administers prescribed medications and treatments; promotes patient comfort and safety; evaluates outcomes; participates in quality improvement and ongoing education; and upholds ethical, evidence-based, culturally sensitive nursing practice. The posting also includes role-specific duties for scrub nurses, virtual registered nurses, swing-bed facilities, and certain departments or locations; these do not necessarily apply to the MICU position. This is a full-time MICU position at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, scheduled for 36 hours per week on a 12-hour day shift from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
