About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Bay 2E Medical Intensive Care Unit. The nurse collaborates with physicians to develop and implement patient care plans, provides bedside nursing care, and oversees the work of nursing assistants and other ancillary staff. The role involves evaluating the effectiveness of the care plan and ensuring patients' teaching needs are met for discharge or transfer. The nurse is also responsible for professional growth, teaching and mentoring other staff, and managing the critical care of patients with hemodynamic and respiratory instability, including mechanical ventilation. Active participation in unit quality measures and incorporating Evidence Based Practice are key aspects of the role, along with promoting compassion and a therapeutic environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross
  • Must satisfactorily complete ACLS course and Critical Care course within one year of hire/transfer
  • Must satisfactorily complete first available Basic Dysrhythmia course

Nice To Haves

  • Six-month experience in acute care setting or equivalent
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse

Responsibilities

  • Integrating evidence-based knowledge into practice.
  • Delegation and coordination of tasks and assignments of nursing care.
  • Facilitates/participates in patient conferences.
  • Identifies and provides the means to meet patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs by communicating with the appropriate resource persons and attending discharge/transfer planning conferences.
  • Assumes the responsibility for professional growth by seeking out educational opportunities and utilizing programs in the hospital or elsewhere in the community.
  • Teaches and/or guides professional and ancillary personnel.
  • Precepts/mentors new employees and students.
  • Functions as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments
  • Effectively manages the critical care of the patient with hemodynamic monitoring
  • Accurately and effectively administers high risk medications
  • Effectively monitors and manages the care of the patient with hemodynamic instability
  • Effectively monitors and manages the care of the patient with respiratory instability including mechanical ventilation
  • Actively participates in unit quality measures
  • Incorporates Evidence Based Practice in patient care
  • Ability to promote compassion and a therapeutic environment
