About The Position

Personalcare Registered Professional Nursing P.C. is looking for enthusiastic and hard-working Registered Nurses (RN) to work full-time on the day shift or per-diem on day and night shift in the Medical Department at the Broome County Correctional Facility located in Binghamton, NY. The RN will monitor and evaluate nursing care in accordance with Personalcare philosophy, goals and objectives. This position will directly report to the Medical Director or other mid-level practitioner. The Registered Nurse will primarily be responsible for ensuring that the nursing practice complies with established nursing standards. In addition, the Registered Nurse will also assess and provide comprehensive treatment care while observing and maintaining security requirements. This position provides a 2 week orientation period where you will be training on-the-job and shadowing with the nursing staff.

Requirements

  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Good grasp of patient assessment skills.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of New York.
  • Clinical decision-making ability is required and critical to have.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to function independently and demonstrating clinical competency.
  • Ability to gain trust of patients and build a working relationship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in health care delivery system, a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate nursing care in accordance with Personalcare philosophy, goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that the nursing practice complies with established nursing standards.
  • Assess and provide comprehensive treatment care while observing and maintaining security requirements.
  • Monitor treatment services to avoid the inappropriate use and/or duplication of services.
  • Advise Health Services Administrator and Nurse Supervisor if these situations arise.
  • Monitor and recommend methods to improve operational efficiency and cost containment effectiveness.
  • Assist Health Services Administrator or Nurse Supervisor to coordinate and/or conduct monthly health care staff meetings, as assigned.
  • Provide other services and perform other duties as assigned by Nurse Supervisor, Health Services Administrator, head nurse, or corporate staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of all controlled substances, narcotics, and sharps in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.
  • Provide health counseling to patients.
  • Conduct sick call for inmate/patients and provide provisional diagnosis and treatment for selected minor illnesses and injuries defined by written protocol and approved by the Director.
  • Observe, report, and document symptoms, reactions and progress of inmate/patients and participates in the formulation of the plan of nursing care.
  • Implement treatment care plans which promote maintain and restore the well-being of inmate/patients.
  • At a minimum of every shift, at the beginning of the shift, take vital signs, do a complete assessment and document findings on dispensary care of all inmates/patients housed in the medical unit and/or mental health unit.
  • Train on-the-job and shadow with the nursing staff during a 2-week orientation period.
