About The Position

During Fall Break, this role ensures that the health needs of identified students are met. The nurse may provide extra services for students with Individual Education Plans (IEP), monitors and evaluates service delivery by other health care staff, and ensures adequate communication with all parties involved in student care. This position is specifically for Fall Break only.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of directly related clinical experience.
  • Current license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Tennessee.
  • Certification in First Aid, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator(AED).
  • Some ventilator knowledge.
  • A Tennessee driver's license.
  • Commitment for the entire period of Fall Break.
  • Understanding of and adherence to HIPAA and FERPA.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in pediatrics or school nursing services.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Identify necessary assessments, evaluations, educational planning, and health services/resources for children with special health care needs during Fall Break.
  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments of children in relation to the school setting.
  • Provide direct health care services to students with special needs, including case management for complex health needs.
  • Perform nursing services for students with IEPs.
  • Provide home visits as needed.
  • Provide nursing services on buses as needed.
  • Facilitate the transition of students with special needs from home to school.
  • Provide nursing services to treat injuries and diseases for all students and staff.
  • Monitor and evaluate service delivery by other health care staff.
  • Ensure adequate communication with others participating in the care of the students.
  • Consult with LPNs on the Individualized Health care plan as needed.
  • Communicate with physicians, community agencies, school staff, and parents/guardians according to District guidelines.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
  • Apply and support District policies and procedures, and adhere to state and federal guidelines.
  • Travel to multiple school locations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or directed.
