About The Position

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a per diem Registered Nurse for their CHOP at Virtua location. This per diem role offers flexible, as-needed coverage, with shifts available 1-2 days per week depending on clinical need. The role requires travel to other New Jersey sites as needed. The position involves providing safe nursing care to the general division population with minimal guidance, basing practice on identified principles and standards of care. The Registered Nurse is responsible for day-to-day patient care, assessment, and treatment in an outpatient office and must comply with administrative policies and clinical protocols. Administratively, the role reports to the Site Manager and Ambulatory Nursing Director for nursing practice issues.

Requirements

Technical Diploma Nursing Required
At least one (1) year of previous RN experience Required
Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or
Nursing Temporary Practice Permit (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or
Registered Nurse (New Jersey) - New Jersey State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or
Nursing Temporary Practice Permit (New Jersey) - New Jersey State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required
Computer Competency
Basic Use of MS Word 2007
Creation of meeting minutes, creation of charts and tables
Saving and naming of new and established files
Basic Use of MS PowerPoint 2007
Creation of an education presentation using clip art
Basic Use of MS Excel 2007
Creation of a simple spreadsheet and use of symbols
Navigation and basic search functions of the Internet using Internet Explorer
Use of Outlook 2007 email, opening of attachments, attaching new files to emails and saving attached files to computer
Use of shared network file space, if applicable
Basic use of computers, printers, monitors, patient care devices, and Fax machines
Information Literacy
Use of Internet and Intranet to look up basic electronic resources for practice
Ability to find and print Patient Family Education Documents
Ability to find PPM Department Council minutes from last month, if applicable
Ability to find and navigate the Department of Nursing websites and related linked CHOP resource sites
Ability to perform a literature search on the internet and ability to find professional journal and/or research based articles
Ability to evaluate internet sites for reliability
Information Management Literacy
Navigation of electronic health information records and ability to review specific patient data in a clinical information system
Understanding of policies and procedures around timeliness of care, use of a clinical information system and support of safe nursing practice
Utilize applicable clinical pathways
Ability to collect raw clinical data using quality tools
Ability to discuss, evaluate and analyze outcome data presented in charts and tables
Discuss the responsibilities of each user of an electronic record related to confidentiality and privacy
Coordination of patient care information in a fragmented environment where there is partially online and partially paper references

Nice To Haves

Pediatric and leadership experience is preferred.
Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred
At least one (1) year previous Pediatric RN experience Preferred

Responsibilities

Follows Nursing Process to deliver safe care: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Synthesizes patient assessment data and recognizes complex situations prior to communicating with care team.
Collaborates with family, team members and other caregivers to initiate/update plan of care, patient/family education.
Manages care of complex patients utilizing proper prioritization and delegation to appropriate staff.
Identifies expected outcomes and revises plan of care when unexpected outcomes arise and begins to use full range of communication as a means of conveying plan.
Documentation reflects ongoing evaluation and effectiveness of patient care utilizing current standards, policies and procedures.
Provides care that meets professional standards of practice and meets regulatory requirements.
Role models appearance and behaviors that promote a positive image of nursing.
Interacts with parents/patients and colleagues with respect and dignity while focusing on ideas to improve on the ideal patient experience.
Spends the “extra time” with families listening for avenues to improve on the ideal patient experience.
Understands the impact of arriving to work on time and predicts challenges and obstacles.
Provides an accurate patient status report to members of the team that reflect nursing interventions and patient outcomes.
Actively collaborates with other clinical staff to make recommendations on the plan of care.

Assists with data collection in research studies being conducted in work area.
