About The Position

Join Our Surgical ICU at UPMC Shadyside! This is a Part-Time position available for RN's with at least one year of RN experience, ICU experience preferred. The role involves rotating two 12-hour day/night shifts a week. UPMC Shadyside is a Magnet-designated teaching hospital with ongoing research and education. The Surgical ICU is an award-winning unit, a two-time AACN Beacon Award winner, recognized for outstanding critical care. The unit focuses on patient-centered care for surgical oncology patients, but also cares for critically ill medical patients, with expertise in vascular, urological, and general surgical cases. The facilities are cutting-edge, featuring continuous cardiac monitoring, ventilators, BIPAP, CRRT, wound vacs, and drains. Nursing responsibilities include administering and titrating infusions such as anti-arrhythmics, insulin, vasopressors, sedatives, and paralytics. It's a collaborative environment where energetic, self-motivated RNs thrive.

Requirements

• 1 year of RN experienced required
• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to provide care and interact with all ages of patients.
• Understand the principles of growth and development over the lifespan.
• Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with patients and their families, executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, and other departments.

• Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.

Nice To Haves

• ICU experience preferred
• BSN preferred
• ACLS within 12 months of hire
• CPR required based on AHA standards that include both didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
• UPMC approved national certification preferred
