About The Position

The Intermediate Care/Telemetry Unit (IMCU) at Baylor Scott & White Hospital – College Station is a 40-bed unit providing care to adult patients requiring an increased level of monitoring and nursing care. Our patient population includes adult cardiac, stroke, and multi-organ dysfunction patients. Nurses provide comprehensive care while closely monitoring patients for changes in condition and collaborating with physicians and the interdisciplinary team. This position is ideal for an RN who enjoys caring for complex adult patients, utilizing strong clinical judgment, and working collaboratively in a team-focused environment. Baylor Scott & White Hospital – College Station is a private, 143-bed, multi-specialty hospital. The Medical Center is a certified advanced primary stroke center, a certified chest pain center, as well as a Level III Trauma Center. Additionally, we have achieved the American Nurse Credentialing Center Magnet Designation.

Requirements

Graduated from an Accredited Program in nursing.
RN license.
BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of starting.
Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects.
Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Responsibilities

Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
Conduct patient assessments, recognizing health issues.
Create and implement care plans, assessing patient responses and adjusting plans to reach desired outcomes.
Secure patient travel.
Understand patient needs in healthcare.
Help patients and prevent issues.
Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
Build relationships, manage discomfort, and stay professional in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
Assess and document learning needs regularly.
Work with colleagues and community to create a care plan.
Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
