About The Position

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for 2 South- Acute Cardiac/Stroke Unit. This is a Full Time, Day Shift position in Suffolk, VA. The Acute Cardiac/Stroke Unit at Sentara Obici Hospital provides care for patients with cardiac conditions including heart failure, cardiac rhythm disturbances, newly implanted permanent pacemakers and defibrillators, post-coronary interventions, post-ablation, myocardial infarctions. 2 South also cares for pre/post catheterization, acute stroke, and post procedural neuro cases. This 25-bed unit sees a ratio of 1:6 with assistance of Patient Care Techs. The unit cares for patients with acuity higher than a typical medical-surgical unit. 2 South Acute Cardiac is also preparing for a transition to a Cardiac PCU step-down before year's end, making it an exciting opportunity for nurses seeking growth in a dynamic, high-acuity setting. Requirements

  • Registered Nursing Program Degree or Diploma from an accredited institution.
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS within 90 days of hire.
  • Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire.
  • NIH within 1 year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN preferred.
  • Acute care nursing experience preferred.
  • Background in Stroke or Telemetry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Adhere to the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
  • Utilize clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
