About The Position

Under general supervision, provides direct patient care to assigned patients on Unit 52 (Medicine/Telemetry/Neuro/Stroke). This is a part-time position with shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Current registration with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a Registered Nurse.
  • Completion of "Healthcare Provider" CPR course, bi-annually.
  • One-year Registered Nurse experience required.
  • Proficiency in developing nursing plan of care, implementing effective nursing care, and evaluating outcome of nursing intervention.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills in order to effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Effective skills in use of computer programs.
  • Demonstrates skill in patient experience and service recovery.

Nice To Haves

  • May participate in activities of the RN 3 with the exception of serving as a facilitator for the Nurse Residency Program.
  • If competent, serve as a charge RN and monitor productivity/patient flow.
  • If competent, precept new staff.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Compiles patient databases and formulates nursing diagnoses.
  • Utilizes physical assessment and interviewing techniques to gather patient information.
  • Anticipates the need for intervention by other disciplines.
  • Determines priorities for patient care needs or problems and reassesses patients as indicated by changes in condition or response to treatment.
  • Initiates and updates written nursing plans of care, incorporating scientific and psychosocial principles.
  • Coordinates patient, family, significant other, and health team members in planning hospital and post-discharge care.
  • Performs clinical nursing skills independently.
  • Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments appropriately and accurately.
  • Initiates appropriate emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Appropriately delegates and coordinates the duties of ancillary personnel.
  • Communicates patient status and plan of care through written documentation and verbal communication with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Communicates in a therapeutic manner with the patient, family, and visitors.
  • Applies teaching/learning principles in the education of patients and families.
  • Manages daily patient assignments by appropriately setting priorities.
  • Delegates responsibility appropriately and monitors nursing care delivered by ancillary personnel.
  • Coordinates patient activities with other disciplines.
  • Develops, documents, and implements Patient Teaching and Discharge Planning Records.
  • Participates in established patient, family, staff, and/or student education programs.
  • Participates in clinical monitoring at the unit level, identifying and addressing unit, staff, and patient care problems.
  • May participate in activities of the RN 3, with the exception of serving as a facilitator for the Nurse Residency Program.
