About The Position

This role is for a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) at BioLife Plasma Services, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The primary focus is on ensuring the safety and eligibility of plasma donors, collecting high-quality plasma for life-changing medicines, and maintaining a commitment to customer service and quality. The position involves determining donor eligibility, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable results. The Medical Support Specialist works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operations and the Center Physician for medical issues, adhering to industry regulations and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, including graduation from a recognized educational nursing program meeting state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy in the state of licensure.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA-approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, acceptance requirements, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions and manage medical emergencies according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including following the Center Physician's standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on unacceptable findings, medical or technical issues, and donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support employee Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health or emergency services, referring to EHS guidance.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS, supporting investigations related to pandemic threats in the local community as directed by EHS or Medical Affairs.
