Performs a verbal assessment with the patient, family, and/or guardian prior to admission via a phone interview. Collects the patient's medical history from previous medical records. Works closely with the anesthesia department in coordinating the patient's needs. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in The Methodist Mission, Vision and Values. Practice appropriate telephone assessment skills, balancing quality work with efficient use of time and resources. Perform appropriate telephone assessment with patient, family, and/or guardian prior to admission, communicating information obtained to appropriate team members. Alert anesthesia team and/or surgeon of lab results, physical assessment, or special needs of the patient with medical problems prior to date of surgery. Communicate pre-operative instructions, arrival time, NPO instructions, and other pertinent information to patients, families, and/or guardians. Respond to telephone inquiries regarding expressed needs of the caller in a timely and helpful manner. Thoroughly documents all call encounters in an accurate, concise, and timely manner. Participate in quality, process, and practice improvement activities as requested. Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
