The Registered Nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement a plan of care for assigned patients, coordinating care among other disciplines, physicians, and support staff. The role involves professional nursing duties that apply psychosocial, psychomotor, and age-appropriate cognitive skills to assess, plan, intervene, and advocate for patients throughout the continuum of care. The nurse reevaluates patient responses and outcomes, the effectiveness of the plan of care, and readiness for discharge, revising the plan or making referrals as needed. The nurse works with staff, physicians, and other healthcare team members to coordinate and supervise care, delegate activities appropriately, provide guidance and education, and develop teaching and discharge plans. The role also requires compassionate, thoughtful communication with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers while respecting patients’ age, cultural, religious, gender identity, and ethnic backgrounds.
