RN, Registered Nurse | Inpatient Behavioral Health

This Registered Nurse (RN) position is in the Inpatient Behavioral Health (IBH) department at the Main Campus in La Crosse, WI. The schedule is 60 hours per two weeks (0.75 FTE) with rotating 12-hour Day/Night shifts (0630–1900 / 1830–0700). It requires working every third weekend and two holidays per year. The department offers a supportive, family-like environment with long staff retention and strong nurse-to-patient ratios. It provides diverse experience caring for both adults and adolescents (ages 13+) across multiple units. There are opportunities for growth into roles like the Behavioral Response Team and Charge Nurse. The department is also involved in innovations such as the Empath Unit. This role allows nurses to help patients in crisis and be part of their healing journey.
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Nursing (minimum)
- Active and unencumbered RN license to practice in the state of Wisconsin
- Current Infant-Adult BLS for Health Care Providers
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Nice To Haves
- 1+ year of RN experience, ideally in mental health
Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, trauma-informed and evidence-based care to patients experiencing acute mental health crisis.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, NPs, RNs, behavioral health specialists, CNAs, social workers, therapists, clergy, and addiction counselors.
- Support patients through crisis stabilization, medication management, and therapeutic interventions.
- Maintain accurate documentation and uphold compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
