About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides maternal/newborn care in a fast-paced Mother/Baby couplet care unit at Texas Health Southwest in Fort Worth, Texas. The 26-bed unit averages 275–285 deliveries per month and is part of the CHAMPS national initiative for breastfeeding education. The facility is mother-friendly designated, Texas 10-Step designated, Level III Maternal designated, a Team Birth facility, and Magnet designated. This is a full-time position working 36 hours per week on nights, from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. Weekend and holiday work is required. The unit offers self-scheduling, educational and career growth opportunities, and a supportive team environment.

Requirements

Associate degree from an accredited nursing program or a nursing diploma.
Registered Nurse (RN) credential required upon hire.
One year of experience as a Registered Nurse or completion of an RN residency program.
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) before providing independent patient care, maintained quarterly.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 90 days.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training, maintained annually, within 90 days.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
One or more years of Maternal/Newborn, Mother/Baby, or Couplet Care RN experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Deliver patient care using the Nursing Process.
Assess patients.
Plan patient care.
Intervene as appropriate.
Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
Incorporate age-specific safety and infection-control measures into patient care.
Initiate actions to meet patients’ and significant others’ information needs.
Maintain continuity of patient care across shifts and hospitals and while expediting out-of-hospital transfers.
