The Registered Nurse (RN) is a key member of the Nursing Team in assisting and supervising residents in all activities of daily living. This individual ensures the expert care and comfort of our patients, and motivates the resident to participate in ADLs to improve and maintain their independence and self-esteem. Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Serve as the nursing leader and educator on the unit. She/he directs all care related items from admission through discharge. Guide the medical team (MD, LPN and CNAs) as well as all clinical disciplines in a coordinated effort with the resident and family to create a comprehensive interdisciplinary individualized plan of care and ensure the EMR reflects the same. Through keen observation of any actual and potential changes in condition, the RN together with the other members of the clinical team will respond and react timely and according to protocol to prevent re-hospitalizations and potential emergency situations. In the face of an emergency situation, the RN responds efficiently and calmly and acts as the leader in the rapid response or emergency response team as appropriate. Educates and reinforces clinical competencies of nursing staff in areas such as wound care, ostomy care, foley catheter insertion and care, medication administration through all routes including G-tube and IVs, trach care and suctioning. Exhibits proficiency, or working towards proficiency, in all nursing functions to be carried out. Performs tasks such as IV insertion, PICC line care, GT and suprapubic catheter reinsertion, initiate care plans and review the data and sign off on assessments done by the LPN.
