The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care within an assigned unit and coordinates care planning with other disciplines. This PRN/occasional Labor and Delivery role has variable hours and shifts. Nurses must commit to working the hours specified in the Tier 2 commitment agreement. For nurses with less than one year of nursing experience, the role includes completing nursing histories, initiating patient education, collaborating with interdisciplinary team members, implementing and evaluating plans of care, coordinating unit and patient care assignments with supervision, and introducing new employees and students to unit routines. Nurses also participate in unit committees and quality improvement initiatives, demonstrate competence in age-specific critical skills, supervise designated support staff, follow policies and safety standards, complete annual education assignments, and work toward established goals and objectives. In addition to those duties, nurses with one or more years of experience correlate patient history and support systems with the care setting, assess patient and family learning needs, develop and initiate care plans with patients and families, recommend interventions, evaluate care plans, and resolve moderately complex problems without oversight. They may also precept employees or students as directed and review the preceptee’s clinical performance with a unit leader or clinical instructor. Other duties may be assigned.
