About The Position

NaphCare is hiring Registered Nurses (RNs) to join their team of medical professionals in Grand Junction, Colorado. They manage all aspects of healthcare for individuals incarcerated in the Mesa County Jail. This role involves providing care to a diverse patient population with complex medical needs within a controlled environment where security is a top priority. The position offers opportunities for new graduates, with training provided in correctional healthcare. The days are described as never dull, with various duties to keep staff engaged.

Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in Colorado.
  • Active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required).
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of infectious disease management.
  • Knowledge of applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently and in a team.
  • Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed.
  • Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.

Responsibilities

  • Performing initial health screenings and physical assessments of newly detained individuals.
  • Monitoring and documenting patient health including vital signs and medical histories.
  • Providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services.
  • Managing acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
  • Responding to medical emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
  • Educating patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
  • Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting any relevant information.
