About The Position

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is hiring a Registered Nurse for a new Medical Surgical Unit at St. Michael Medical Center. The 24/7 unit has 18 private medical-telemetry rooms and serves patients requiring ongoing diagnostic testing or observation before discharge or admission. Patient stays are typically less than 24–48 hours, making the unit fast-paced and requiring nurses to coordinate care amid rapid patient turnover. The patient population includes people experiencing chest pain, stroke, congestive heart failure exacerbation, uncontrolled hypertension, dehydration, and recovery after cardiac catheterization or short-stay surgery. Nurses provide compassionate, high-quality, safe, respectful, patient- and family-centered care. They quickly establish rapport with patients and involve them in their care. The role calls for strong assessment skills, acute critical thinking, a patient-first mindset, urgency, and dedication to excellence. The organization describes itself as a healthcare provider serving the Puget Sound area, with 10 hospitals and nearly 300 care sites, and emphasizes whole-person care, research, education, collaboration, and professional healthcare in modern, well-equipped facilities.
