About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the ORTHO Unit Labor Pool works on the Days shift (7am-7pm) in Newport News, Virginia. This role operates under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Director, and is responsible for the comprehensive nursing care of assigned patients. This includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The RN utilizes critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to develop individualized care plans that consider physiological, psychosocial, and cultural diversity. A key responsibility is supervising and delegating tasks to non-professional personnel to ensure optimal patient care. The position requires competence in addressing the age-related needs of the patient populations served within the nursing unit. The RN works collaboratively with leadership and a multidisciplinary team to deliver a full range of services and clinical care, adhering to the high standards of Riverside Health System and its strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or licensed in a compact state Upon Hire (Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire (Required)
  • Weekend Shifts

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population.
  • Demonstrates nursing unit specific competencies and equipment training.
  • Partners with patients and their family to develop, implement and evaluate a plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient.
  • Incorporates evidence based standards of practice and collaborates with interdisciplinary team in care coordination.
  • Facilitates safe patient transition to next level of care as part of plan of care.
  • Demonstrates sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to ensure patient receives consistent, competent and ethical care.
  • Focuses on quality outcomes of patient when addressing service needs to ensure evidence based quality care of patient.
  • Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations.
  • Modifies education method to ensure patient/family understanding.
  • Assumes responsibility to coordinate and deliver individualized patient education and discharge specific education to family/caregivers.
  • Evaluates for comprehension and documents.
  • Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Delegates and prioritizes tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and service excellence to meet the patient's care needs.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergency situations.
  • Evaluates resources and support needed and uses systems to ensure needs are met.
