About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to inmates or detainees while helping maintain a safe and secure workplace. Working alongside Licensed Practical Nurses, the RN assesses patients, administers medication, monitors progress, provides education, maintains confidential medical records, and follows applicable industry and company accreditation policies. The role also supervises the workflow of LPN staff and provides input into performance evaluations.

Requirements

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree from an approved program.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state where the facility is located; maintain a current copy of the license on file at the facility.
• Competence in crisis intervention, medical emergencies, physical assessment, medical nursing care, and psychiatric nursing care.
• Ability to work without direct, immediate supervision when performing nursing diagnoses and provide appropriate follow-through treatment.
• Excellent diagnostic skills, patience, and empathy.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of direct work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care within the RN’s capacity and refer other medical problems to the appropriate physician.
• Perform comprehensive physical assessments and obtain medical histories.
• Periodically evaluate patients’ symptoms, reactions, and progress, and report problems to the physician and management.
• Administer medication securely, taking precautions against drug hoarding and trafficking, and ensure prescribed medications are given as instructed.
• Provide patient education about chronic illnesses and post-hospitalization or post-surgical procedures.
• Supervise the workflow of LPN staff and provide input into performance evaluations.
• Document all detainee or inmate contacts and maintain confidential medical records.
• Follow industry and company accreditation policies.
