Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota
  • Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire or within 3 months of hire
  • Must be certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) upon hire or within 6 months of hire
  • Must be certified in Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS) upon hire or within 1 year.
  • Possession of critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Ability to withstand prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching
  • Ability to work on a computer while sitting or standing
  • Perform repetitive hand movements
  • Work on wet/damp surfaces
  • Abillty to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, balance, push, and pull
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases and occupational dangers
  • Must be able to withstand physical, emotional, and mental stress
  • Ability to reach below, at, or above shoulder level
  • Ability to understand and distinguish speech and/or other sounds
  • Ability to detect and inspect surroundings

Nice To Haves

  • Recent emergency department, critical care, or med/surg experience preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Support and adhere to hospital policies, procedures, philosophy and mission.
  • Obtains and documents nursing history from patient and/or patient representative
  • Perform assessment according to patient condition
  • Prepare and administer medications as prescribed with the ability to question medication orders based on patient condition
  • Identify and report abnormal findings or status changes to the provider
  • Efficiently and accurately document pertinent items in the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR) which may include but is not limited to admission questionnaires, assessment, vital signs, medication administration, care plan, education, nursing interventions, ADLs, and patient goals
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of how to use available medical equipment and seeks out answers with questions in regard to equipment
  • Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards
  • Participates in peer review as appropriate
  • Assumes responsibility for professional growth
  • Participates in discharge planning
  • Supervises care given by LPNs, CNAs, and nonprofessional staff and provides instruction as needed
  • Professionally communicates and interacts with patients, visitors, and all members of the healthcare team
  • Recognize safety hazards and take corrective action
  • Effectively delegate appropriate tasks and responsibilities
  • Use of evidence-based practice
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duty
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record and computer skills
