Registered Nurse - Surgical Care Unit
About The Position
Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Surgical Care Unit. The nurse collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and provides care to patients with a variety of conditions, acuity levels, telemetry-monitoring status, and treatment plans. The role offers variety in day-to-day work and opportunities to expand nursing skills. The unit cares for complex gastrointestinal surgeries, including Whipple procedures, surgical oncology, liver resections, ostomy creation, bariatric procedures, complicated urology, and abdominal trauma. Patient care may involve complex pain management systems such as PCA, epidurals, and other continuous infusions, as well as wound care, drain management, and alternative nutritional support. The shift is 6:45 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. The position includes a night and weekend differential.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse qualification.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
- Associate degree.
- Applicable experience: less than 1 year.
Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process.
- Perform patient care.
- Delegate patient care tasks.
- Supervise other patient care staff.
- Coordinate the plan of care for a group of assigned patients.
- Consult with other members of the health care team when indicated to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate proficiency and abide by policies, rules, guidelines, and procedures.
