About The Position

Surgical ICU is a high acuity, critical care area. Our surgical population includes liver transplantation, vascular surgery, otolaryngology, surgical oncology, urology, and acute care/emergency surgery. Requirements

BLS/ACLS (AHA or ARC) and NIHSS required.
Graduate of an accredited Nursing program.
One (1) year of experience working as a registered nurse (RN) in intensive care unit (ICU) is a minimum requirement.
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Texas Board of Nursing or with a multistate license from Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
Weekend and holiday requirement.

Nice To Haves

BSN preferred.
Two (2) years or more of ICU RN experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Performs and accurately documents physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments, considering age-specific criteria.
Anticipates patient and/or family needs and expectations to develop an appropriate plan of care, utilizing critical thinking and unit competencies.
Identifies and implements appropriate nursing interventions, documenting them accurately and timely. Acts as a coordinator of the interdisciplinary plan of care and collaborates with the healthcare team.
Prioritizes nursing interventions based on assessment, promptly identifies changes in condition, reports changes, and takes follow-up action. Involves the patient in the plan of care and keeps them informed.
Evaluates implemented interventions and modifies care accordingly, documenting accurately and timely.
Adheres to hospital and Department of Nursing policies, procedures, clinical pathways, and nationally accepted standards of nursing practice, incorporating ANA standards and the Professional Practice Model.
Provides appropriate and timely answers and/or education to patients and families, assessing competence and obtaining feedback.
Welcomes and orients patients and families to the unit, encouraging participation in care. Reviews the plan of care, explains procedures and medications, and makes hourly rounds.
Performs duties that may include direct patient care, interacting with research participants, managing patient records, or managing research records.
Performs other duties as assigned.
