About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Registered Nurse to work in the Operating Rooms at UBC Hospital in Vancouver, BC. This is a training opportunity where successful applicants will complete a post-basic training education program before working in the Department. The program requires full-time attendance and is funded at 100% of wages, tuition, and books. Upon successful completion, staff transition to a Regular Full-Time (RFT) position. Candidates agree to remain with VCH as a regular status nurse in the applicable area for at least 18 months post-training, or VCH will seek to recover program costs. The role involves practicing within a client and family-centered care model, adhering to BCCNM standards, and providing nursing services in an operating room environment as part of an integrated surgical team. Responsibilities include performing varied and complex surgical interventions, enhancing patient/family quality of life, consulting with the surgical team, demonstrating continuous improvement, maintaining clinical competence, and participating in committees and research as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must successfully complete the post-basic training education prior to working in the Department.
  • Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.
  • Practices within the context of a client and family centred care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses and code of ethics.
  • Practices within a patient and family centred care model and the vision and values of the organization.
