This position supports the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Organization by participating as a functional team member in the peri-operative process. The role involves admitting and discharging patients safely and efficiently, contributing to the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) process, and identifying opportunities to improve patient safety. The Registered Nurse (RN) is expected to accept changes in patient care assignments and work schedules positively and readily. Effective communication and respectful interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers are essential. The RN will document pertinent patient information, educate patients about admission and discharge processes, and attend staff meetings and training sessions. They will objectively evaluate suggestions and constructive criticism, using "team protocol" for communication and conflict resolution. Maintaining current RN licensure and fulfilling continuing education requirements are mandatory. The role includes assisting with the orientation and training of new personnel and acting as a resource for patient care problems. Adherence to safety policies, responding to emergencies with competence, and assessing and resolving problems independently (or seeking assistance when needed) are key responsibilities. The RN will effectively organize time, equipment, supplies, and personnel, prioritizing patient care and preparing for the next workday. This includes assisting with inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment, and maintaining knowledge of pharmacy locations and medications. Maintaining order and cleanliness of the pre/post-operative area, performing thorough preoperative patient assessments, and providing comfort and reassurance while respecting patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality are crucial. The RN will implement and document preoperative care according to facility policy, perform safe and individualized nursing care in the immediate post-operative period, and organize nursing activities efficiently, prioritizing patient and RN greetings upon arrival to post-op. They will provide nursing care related to the surgical condition and anesthesia, ensure discharge instructions are given and understood, and confirm patients meet facility discharge criteria before release.
