Our Mother/Baby Unit is a fast-paced environment that includes high acuity patients. Are you looking to increase your knowledge base? Our Mother Baby leadership team fosters an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and building every team member. The Mother Baby Unit cares for Postpartum and Normal Newborn patients. The patient ratios are typically 1:3 Couplets, which could mean a mix of 6 patients (e.g., 4 moms, 2 babies). The department has the largest number of deliveries in Tarrant County and is growing. It holds Maternal Designation Level IV, Magnet, and Texas Ten Step accreditations. The shift is PRN (as needed). A minimum of 1 year of recent Mother/Baby experience is required. Requirements

  • Graduated from an Accredited Program
  • 2 years of true, recent Mother/Baby/Postpartum RN experience
  • RN license
  • BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of starting

Nice To Haves

  • A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
  • Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
  • Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects.
  • Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
  • Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.

  • Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
  • Conduct patient assessments, recognize health issues, create care plans, and assess patient responses.
  • Secure patient travel.
  • Understand patient needs in healthcare and help patients and prevent issues.
  • Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
  • Create, implement, and evaluate care plans, adjusting plans to reach desired outcomes.
  • Build relationships, manage discomfort, and stay professional in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
  • Create care plans reflecting values to aid in resolving issues.
  • Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
  • Assess and document learning needs regularly.
  • Work with colleagues and the community to create a care plan.
  • Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
  • Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
  • Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
  • Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to growth.
