Registered Nurse (RN) Women's Operating Room
About The Position
Inova Fairfax Medical Campus’s Women’s Operating Room is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse. The unit has eight fully functional, state-of-the-art operating rooms and provides care for general gynecology, gynecological oncology, urological gynecology, and robotic procedures. Additional specialties scheduled in conjunction with gynecologic surgery may include urology, general surgery, colorectal surgery, and plastics. Each operating room is similarly equipped to support any surgical procedure. Patient acuity includes ambulatory, same-day admission, and inpatient cases; patients may also arrive from the Emergency Room, outside facilities, home, or physician offices. The role is full time on the day shift, with 10- or 12-hour shifts scheduled Monday through Friday. Minimal call is required to cover weekday nights, weekends, and Inova-observed holidays. Eligible nurses qualify for sign-on and relocation bonuses.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of direct Operating Room experience as a Registered Nurse.
- BSN or ADN from an accredited school of nursing; nurses with an ADN must complete a BSN within 5 years of their start date.
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.

- Multi-specialty training as an Operating Room nurse.
- Completion of AORN’s Periop 101 curriculum.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships.
- Formulate individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpret trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
- Support and empower patients and families as they progress through the healthcare continuum, from health promotion to end-of-life decisions.
- Advocate for patients’ rights from the patient and family perspective, provide counsel, and act as a resource to resolve issues.
- Anticipate patients’ and families’ ethical, spiritual, and cultural needs, and assist staff in assessing patients’ learning needs.
