About The Position

This is a Registered Nurse position with 0.2 FTE, working 8 hours per week, located in Seaside, CA. The role involves overseeing non-licensed staff, patient triage, contributing to health center productivity, and providing direct patient care in various settings including in-clinic abortion services, sexual and reproductive health, centralized follow-up, and triage response center duties. The nurse will be responsible for ensuring staff competency, preparing patients for procedures, monitoring post-operative care, providing education, and managing lab reports and patient communication.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform the duties described above.
  • Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program
  • Current CA State RN license
  • Current BLS Certificate
  • Current experience using computer and mouse
  • Experience using a Microsoft Windows based program and willing to learn new computer skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and locations
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Current ACLS Certificate (CFU RNs exempt)

Responsibilities

  • Assuring non-licensed staff are qualified in performing back office/lab skills and achieve core competency levels annually.
  • Providing input for the medical component of non-licensed staff performance reviews.
  • Overseeing patient triage for medical problems and acute versus routine appointments for both reproductive health and primary care patients.
  • Working with Center Manager or designee to facilitate flow and triage.
  • Contributing to achieving health center productivity goals.
  • Demonstrating PPMM customer service standards.
  • Preparing recovery room for all in-clinic abortion services.
  • Preparing pre-operative medications.
  • Assessing post-operative patients for pain and bleeding control and early detection of complications.
  • Overseeing HSS functions: vital signs, post-operative instructions, education of patient identified birth control method.
  • Providing intraoperative sedation medication and patient monitoring.
  • Providing post-operative medications.
  • Maintaining and ensuring emergency cart and equipment are stocked and current.
  • Following standardized procedures for patient visits including hormonal contraception, Emergency Contraception (EC), and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) screening.
  • Providing patient education, counseling, lab work and ultrasound for medication abortions.
  • Providing immunizations per approved guidelines and standardized procedures, such as HPV vaccination.
  • Accepting and signing off lab reports from clinician’s PAQs.
  • Evaluating and developing plans for follow-up.
  • Referring paps/other labs that are outside the scope of CFU RN to the health centers’ clinicians.
  • Verifying that all lab reports are handled appropriately and within the appropriate time frame.
  • Providing advice/triage services to both reproductive health and primary care patients.
  • Identifying medical urgency and scheduling appointments with the health centers.
  • Answering all calls placed in queue by the Response Center as outlined in the Triage Policy.
  • Responding to patient emails through the Patient Portal in HER.
