About The Position

The Charge Nurse performs an active role in nursing and mentors staff. The nurse assesses residents and communicates with staff, physicians, and residents, serving as a resident advocate for quality clinical care. The role ensures completion of care plans and required documentation, upholds regulatory compliance, nurtures a resident-directed culture, strengthens the household’s ability to function as an effective home, and promotes individual and team learning. Charge Nurses teach and model professional practices for household staff.

The nurse works cooperatively with social services, activities, dietary services, and housekeeping to facilitate the household model of care. The role requires problem solving and conflict resolution while ensuring residents’ needs and wishes are met.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of long-term care experience.
• Strong assessment and communication skills.
• RN licensure in Iowa.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities, supervisory skills, and interpersonal relationship skills.
• Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing clinical care, nursing practice, and leadership.
• Commitment to person-centered and resident-directed care.

Nice To Haves

• Certification in gerontological nursing is preferred.
• Specialized training or experience in geriatric nursing is desirable.
