About The Position

The Registered Nurse for our Emergency Department is responsible for providing primary patient care in the Emergency Department including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves providing direct care to patients from infancy to adulthood, demonstrating understanding of triage principles, administering medications and treatments, and utilizing the nursing process to provide patient care. The nurse will also participate in communication and problem-solving with patients, families, and healthcare teams, teach patients about their health needs, document care, and assess their own learning needs. Promoting confidentiality and respecting patient rights are also key aspects of this position. The role requires interaction with various hospital personnel and meeting attendance and sick leave utilization standards. Specific education on stroke or related topics is required annually, along with other duties delegated by the director.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Washington State RN License
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • Current AHA ACLS certification
  • Can identify emergent situations, and is able to perform in a calm and professional manner during the emergency situation.
  • Can demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and can identify each patient's/employee’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
  • Ability to respond in a constructive and sensitive manner to the verbal and non-verbal behavior of patients, families, visitors, peers, and other hospital personnel.
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism and take action to improve.
  • Ability to perform position responsibilities with emotional maturity

Nice To Haves

  • Nurses with Emergency Department Experience: Current ENPC or PALS current or completed within 60 days of hire Trauma Nurse Care Curriculum (TNCC) proof of completion at least once in career
  • Nurses without Emergency Department Experience: PALS completion within 60 days of hire ENPC completion within 90 days of hire Trauma Nurse Care Curriculum (TNCC) completion within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to patients from infancy to adulthood
  • Demonstrates understanding of triage principles of life-threatening, urgent, and non-emergent categories of ED patients, and takes appropriate actions.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments, determining correct dosage calculations of prescribed medications in accordance with approved nursing standards.
  • Utilizes 5 step nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation) to provide patient care.
  • Participates in communication and problem solving with patient/significant other, health team members and other departments.
  • Assesses knowledge level of patient/significant other and determines patient’s priority of felt
  • Teaches patients about their health needs including treatments, self -care, precautions, and access to future assistance by the health care team.
  • Documents appropriate components of the nursing process according to established standards.
  • Assesses own learning needs and establishes priorities and develops action plan.
  • Promotes and maintains a high level of confidentiality for self and others.
