About The Position

This is a per diem, onsite position for a Registered Nurse. The role involves responsibilities across pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care. The nurse will be responsible for creating a safe and therapeutic environment, communicating effectively with team members and concerned parties, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available, and documenting patient information accurately. Key duties include inspecting and preparing the operating room, assisting with surgical procedures, managing specimens, and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical process.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in peri-operative nursing.
  • Thorough working knowledge of surgical and aseptic technique.
  • Working knowledge of the physiological and anatomical aspects of the surgical intervention scheduled.
  • Licensed in the State as an R.N.
  • Current C.P.R. certification.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS preferred.
  • Circulating experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create a safe, therapeutic environment identifying, anticipating, and meeting patient's psychological, physiological, and physical needs.
  • Serve as a communication channel between operating room events and team members, as well as concerned parties outside the immediate area.
  • Ensure instrument, supply, and equipment requirements for surgical procedures are met.
  • Document accurate and timely patient data.
  • Inspect and ensure the operating room and procedure room are clean, complete, and safe.
  • Check all equipment, including lights and suction, for safety, functionality, and complete assembly.
  • Direct and assist the Scrub Assistant in preparing for surgical procedures according to established procedures and surgeon preferences.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide requested supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinate activities within the operating room and procedure room for a safe, effective, and timely surgical intervention.
  • Maintain an accurate tally of sponge count materials and needles, documenting and informing the surgeon of any discrepancies.
  • Handle specimens, ensuring accurate identification, appropriate placement in containers/solutions, and dispatch to the laboratory.
  • Assist with patient care in the post-operative phase, remaining at the patient's side and assisting the Anesthesiologist as required.
  • Ensure appropriate specimens are identified and delivered to the correct area, and entered in the Specimen Log.
  • Direct and assist with between-case clean-up to ensure a smooth flow for subsequent cases.
  • Inspect the room and prepare for the next case.
  • Assure sufficient sterile packs are prepared for the following day's surgery.
