About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides age-specific, direct patient care in an adult outpatient neurology clinic according to medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care. The role supports patients and families by helping prevent illness and injury, maintaining wellness, and providing comfort. Nurses safely administer prescribed medications, identify incompatibilities or interactions, and accurately document care. Depending on clinical level, the nurse recognizes or anticipates changes in patient situations, intervenes appropriately, mobilizes resources for individualized patient and family needs, and provides direction and education. At higher clinical levels, the role includes unit-level leadership and serving as a clinical role model. Practice follows physician or licensed independent provider orders, nursing regulations in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the ANA Code of Ethics, national nursing practice standards, and VCU Health System policies and procedures. Nurses organize work and may delegate and supervise assignments carried out by RNs, LPNs, care partners, unit secretaries, and others. The position serves age-specific groups as appropriate to the unit assignment. Compensation depends on clinical level, experience, credentials, and qualifications: Ambulatory Clinical Nurse I, $31.00–$46.50; Clinical Nurse II, $32.55–$48.83; and Clinical Nurse III, $33.51–$51.93.
