About The Position

The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board is hiring a Registered Nurse for a full-time overnight position at the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center in Hampton, Virginia. The role supports both the regional Crisis Stabilization program and the 23-hour observation services, providing nursing care to adults experiencing behavioral health crises and co-occurring substance use disorders. You'll work alongside an interdisciplinary team committed to delivering safe, person-centered care in a therapeutic environment. Since 1971, the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided essential, community-based services across the Peninsula. We serve individuals living with mental health conditions, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders through a comprehensive continuum of care. The BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center is designed to serve individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. It offers a range of urgent care services, including therapy, medication management, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention. Unlike traditional emergency rooms, the facility emphasizes a peaceful and therapeutic atmosphere.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Virginia Board of Nursing
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a behavioral health or psychiatric setting
  • Ability to enroll as a QMHP-A Trainee within 30 days of employment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with crisis response and psychiatric nursing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to adults in acute behavioral health crisis.
  • Partner closely with the psychiatrist and interdisciplinary team to manage medications, monitor patient status, and support stabilization efforts.
  • Complete comprehensive health assessments.
  • Implement and update individualized care plans.
  • Ensure safe and accurate medication administration.
  • Coordinate medical services such as referrals and follow-up care.
  • Respond to urgent situations.
  • Offer crisis intervention and emotional support to both clients and their families.
  • Help individuals regain stability and transition safely to the next level of care.
