About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) at Shackleford Orthopedic Clinic will provide direct patient care. This professional nursing role requires the ability to coordinate care for patients, triage patients, and work collaboratively with clinic providers, fellows, and staff. The RN will analyze complex and ongoing patient assessments and data to identify patient needs. The RN II will assist individual patients, their families, and providers in developing the plan of care to meet patients’, their families’, and practitioners’ needs by prioritizing multiple nursing diagnoses and collaborative medical problems into the Plan of Care (POC).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Associate’s degree in Nursing, Diploma RN, or Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited RN nursing program.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of Registered Nursing experience.
  • Valid Registered Nursing License.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong work ethics and accountability.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessments and documenting findings in the electronic medical record.
  • Triages of patient phone calls and MyChart messages, determining the urgency of symptoms and coordinating appropriate follow-up.
  • Coordinates care with orthopedic surgeons, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, therapists, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized plans of care.
  • Prepares patients for clinic visits, procedures, injections, and surgery.
  • Administers medications and injections according to physician orders and the Arkansas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Provides preoperative and postoperative education, including wound care, pain management, activity restrictions, medication instructions, and recovery expectations.
  • Assists with discharge planning and ensuring patients understand follow-up appointments and rehabilitation plans.
  • Monitors test results, communicating physician recommendations, and facilitating referrals, imaging, and specialty consultations.
  • Educates patients and families about orthopedic conditions, treatment options, joint replacement, sports injuries, fracture care, and chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Maintains accurate, timely documentation and ensuring compliance with UAMS, regulatory, and professional nursing standards.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice, staff education, and professional development.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
